COUNSELING CENTER NEWS:

  • Little Rock Spouses' Club Scholarship and Educational Grant.  High School Senior.  Must currently be a dependent child of an active duty or retired member of the U.S Armed Services.

  • Seniors - The University of Arkansas at Monticello invites you to attend Weevil Welcome Days.  Weevil Welcome Days will be held February 3rd and February 6th from 9:30 am to noon each day.  For more information contact the Office of Admissions at 1-800-844-1826

  • KFC Colonel's Scholars are looking for seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit to qualify for the program.  Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board.  Applications are available at www.kfcscholars.org beginning Dec. 1, 2011 to February 8, 2012.

  • Seniors - If you plan to attend the University of Mississippi, see Ms. Snyder in the counseling center by February 10, 2012 concerning a possible scholarship opportunity.

  • The sixth annual College of Pharmacy Summer Camp will be held June 10-15 on the UAMS campus. Each year, about 35 high school students enjoy pre-professional and social activities and obtain information that helps them decide if pharmacy is the career path for them. This camp is open to high school students entering their junior and senior year in Fall 2012. There will also be a few slots available for high school seniors, entering their freshman year in college.

  • The deadline to complete the online application is Friday, February 10, 2012. To learn more about application process, please visit the information link: http://pharmcollege.uams.edu/pharmacycamp. The form must be submitted online.

  • The Dr. Phillis L. Nichols-Anderson Faith-Based Book Scholarship was established by the Chi Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the PEARLS Foundation to provide support to African American high school students as they work to further their education.  One $1,000 book scholarship and one $500 book scholarship will be awarded to two deserving students.  Applications are available in the counseling center.  Deadline is February 10, 2012.

  •  The UAMS College of Pharmacy Summer Camp Program is designed for high school rising juniors and seniors interested in learning more about the challenging career pathway opportunities in the profession of pharmacy.  The camp is for current sophomores and juniors. Camp is June 10-15. For more information visit: http://uams.edu/cop/pharmacy_camp/.  Electronic applications will be posted by October 31, 2011.  Deadline is February 10, 2012.

  • Remember to complete the FAFSA (Free Application For Federal Student Aid).  The application will be available after January 1, 2012 at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  This form must be completed to be considered for the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship.  If assistance is needed to complete the FAFSA, you may attend an Arkansas College Goal Sunday workshop, February 12, 2012.  Visit www.adhe.edu for more information.

  • Best Buy is awarding up to $1.2 million in scholarships for student in grades 9-12!  That’s 1,200 scholarships of $1,000 each.  Students need solid grades plus community service or work experience.  Apply online at www.bestbuy-communityrelations.com or www.at15.com Deadline is February 15, 2012.

  • The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) awards multiple scholarships to students showing dedication to the pursuit of degrees in diverse disciplines including history, law, nursing, and education.  Applications for the following scholarships are available in the Counseling Center.

  • The Dr. Aura-Lee and James Hobbs Pittenger American History Scholarship ($2,000 renewable) application due February 15, 2012.
    The Lucinda Beneventi Findley History Scholarship ($2,000 nonrenewable) application
    deadlines are February 15, 2012.

  • The GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program annually awards roughly 20 college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with $10,000 renewable scholarships - up to $40,000 total per recipient.  For more information visit www.reaganfoundation.org/scholarships Deadline is February 17, 2012.

  • The Infinite Scholars Program presents the 2ND Annual Scholarship Fair to be held on the campus of Philander Smith College. It is the mission of the Infinite Scholars Program to provide exposure to disadvantaged students, specifically African and Latin American with the financial means and guidance to further their education and pursue degrees at institutions of higher learning throughout the United States.

  • In honor of Black History Month, Regions is proud to offer the Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest.  Twenty-five $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors in Regions' banking areas who will attend college this year.  To enter, write a 500-word essay about an African American, past or present, who has inspired you.  Enter online at www.regions.com.  Contest ends February 29, 2012.

  • The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program is offering scholarships up to $25,000/year for seniors planning to enroll full time at a four-year college or university.  The scholarship will be awarded to students planning to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive industry.  Visit www.buickachievers.com for more information.  Application deadline is February 29, 2012.

  • The University of Arkansas at Monticello's priority dealine for scholarship applications is March 1.  This includes institutional awards, based upon ACT/SAT scores and grade point average, and the many privately funded scholarships available.  Apply at www.uamont.edu.

  • The Board of Directors of the Dr. Curtis Ridout Scholarship Fund announces two full scholarships to the successful recipients who enroll at Arkansas Baptist College for the fall semester of 2012.  Applications will be available after Christmas break in the counseling center. The application should be returned on or before March 1, 2012. 

  • The purpose of The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program "A Constitutional Speech Contest" is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students.  Students in grades 9-11 and citizens of or lawful permanent residents of the United States may apply.  The Department contest will take place on March 3, 2012. 
    The following cash scholarships will be awarded:
         $2,000 - first place
         $1,500 - second place
         $1, 000 - third place

  • The Department winner will represent The Department of Arkansas at the National level, which includes an all expense paid trip with a chaperone to Indianapolis, Indiana.  The student will receive an additional cash scholarship award of $1,500 for attending the Indianapolis Contest.  For more information you contact American Legion Post or the American Legion Department of Arkansas Headquarters at 1-877-243-9799 (toll free) or visit www.arlegion.org/programs/oratorical.html.

  • The Alpha Chi Chapter, Vikette Society, Inc. is offering a $500 book scholarship for female high school seniors who reside in the state of Arkansas and plan to enter the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.  Applications are available in the counseling center.  Deadline is March 11, 2012.

  • The American Legion, Department of Arkansas, is offering (4) scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each.  Selections are based upon American spirit, character, leadership quality, scholastic endeavor, and basis of need.  The senior must be a child, grandchild or great-grandchild of an American Legionnaire in good standing of two or more consecutive year’s membership.  Applications are available in the counseling center.  Deadline is on or before March 15, 2012.

  • The Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program recognizes and rewards young volunteers (ages 6-18) who help make their communities a better place to live.  The student must be nominated by an adult, age 21 or up.  The actions must be described in detail and should document efforts above and beyond what is expected of a child his or her age.  Visit www.kohlscorporation.com and search for scholarship information.  Deadline is March 15, 2012.

  • Arkansas Public Health Association is offering a $500 scholarship for Arkansas Students in a Public Health Field.  Applications are available in the counseling center.  Deadline is March 16, 2012.

  • The Central Arkansas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is offering two $1500 scholarships for graduating African American high school seniors who plan to attend an accredited four year Arkansas college or university.  Applications are available in the counseling center.  Deadline is March 17, 2012.

  • Take the Dream Cat Challenge; you could win a $1,000 scholarship!  You must read a book entitled, Dream Cat then write an essay of 300 words or less.  Follow the directions at http://highlandspublishingllc.com for all instructions.  Deadline is March 20, 2012.

  • The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) offers engineering and construction summer camps for high school students that are interested in pursuing a degree in engineering or associated fields.  For information, visit http://samecamps.org/Deadline is March 16, 2012.  A Vicksburg Post camp is available at http://www.samevicksburg.org/camp/index.htm Deadline is March 23, 2012.

  • The Arkansas Junior Miss Scholarship Program will be held March 29-31 in Searcy.  Categories of competition are:  Scholastics, Fitness, Interview, Self-Expression, and Talent.  To register, visit http://www.ajm.org/participate/applyB

  • The Arkansas Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) is pleased to announce the availability of two, $2,000 college scholarships.  Students must be studying architecture or construction-related engineering programs.  Applications are available in the counseling center.  Deadline is March 30, 2012.

  • The Kiwanis Club of Cabot, Arkansas Foundation is offering the Mike Flowers Scholarship, Gail Carpenter Scholarship, and the Lane Whitaker Scholarship.  Applications are available in the counseling center.  The applications must be returned to the counseling center by March 30, 2012.

  • U.S. Bank is offering forty $1,000 scholarships awarded in a random drawing for seniors.  The program runs through March.  Apply online at usbank.com/scholarship.

  • The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) awards multiple scholarships to students showing dedication to the pursuit of degrees in diverse disciplines including history, law, nursing, and education.  Applications for the following scholarships are available in the Counseling Center.

  • The DAR American Indian Scholarship ($1,000 nonrenewable) will be awarded to a Native American (proof of American Indian blood is required by letter or proof papers) in financial need and have a minimum 2.75 GPA.  Deadline is April 1, 2012.

  • The Major Jacob Gray Chapter, NSDAR Scholarship Program ($500) will be awarded to a senior enrolled in an accredited college or university in the State of Arkansas, who is majoring in history, historical preservation, elementary or secondary education or nursing.  Applications are available in the Counseling Center and are due on or before April 1, 2012.

  • The University of Arkansas at Monticello is offering an EAST Scholarship for tuition for up to 15 academic hours of credit per semester.  Priority deadline is April 1, 2012.  If you are a senior in EAST with two years of active involvement in EAST, you may quality.  Applications are available in the counseling center.

  • American School Health Association is providing a scholarship for students specializing in school health education, school nursing, and pediatric or adolescent medicine or dentistry. Visit www.ashaweb.org  for more information. The application deadline is April 6, 2012.

  • The Margaret Howard Hamilton Scholarship ($1,000 renewable) for a high school senior who has been accepted into the Jones Learning Center at the University of the Ozarks.  Applications must be requested through the Learning Center upon acceptance into this program for learning disabled students.  Deadline is April 15, 2012.

  • Arkansas Student Loan Authority is offering The R. Preston Woodruff, Jr. $1000 Scholarship Drawing.  For information visit: www.asla.info Deadline is April 2012.

  • The Little Rock Black Employee Network group is offering a $500 scholarship for minority high school seniors.  Students must write a 500-750 word essay explaining what unity means to them, and how they put it into action, and how they encourage unity amongst others.   Only the first 100 essays will be reviewed.  Applications are available in the counseling center.

  • UALR is offering a University Science Scholar program for talented science students interested in studying biology, chemistry, and earth sciences.  Students may receive up to $10,000 per year.  The second program is the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Program (ARK-LSAMP).  This program is for underrepresented minorities who are interested in majoring in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM).  It provides $800 per semester and $1,200 for a summer institute prior to the student's first semester.  For more information and applications visit http:.www.ualr.edu/sciencescholarship or www.ualr.edu/lsamp.
